WITH A CRASH WE CREATE HISTORY

We're on the edge of history, creating that which will come to be considered history. It's easy to forget as we go about our daily lives. We study history and develop a distance from the events which shaped the world. We ask ourselves "How could that have happened?" and "How could this have happened?" and tell ourselves things like "That would never happen in this day and age. The human race has evolved too much, learnt too much." With the world in such an obvious state of flux you begin to realise how close we are to history, even that we are playing a part. It starts to seem a bit cyclic in nature when it's easy to compare something that we saw on the news today with a tactic of the Soviet army in world war 2.

CIVILISATION AND DEMOCRACY

Iraq roughly encompasses the region once known as the "fertile crescent" or Mesopotamia. It is believed that it was here that roaming tribes settled to form the first known civiliation at a place called Jarmo in 7,000 b.c. Later between 2600 b.c. and 2400 b.c. this was the region where Sumerian empire existed. Unlike the Egyptian civilization to follow, the King was not considered a god and was answerable to his subjects. Although not a democracy this principle is certainly one of the foundation stones of modern leadership.

It would be ironic if the actions taking place there at the moment were to lead to the downfall of civiliastion as we have come to know it.
